Good evening everyone!
Do you fancy Japanese cuisine?
My first dining experience at Excapade was 5 years back in Brunei.
Little did I know, this Japanese restaurant is quite a household name in both Brunei and Sarawak.
If you are looking for a good Japanese restaurant to dine in,
Excapade it is. :)

Read on to find out more about our dining experience here on this recent trip.
As you can see from the first photo,
there is a sushi on-the-go counter located at the entrance.
I think it is a great idea for a quick sushi fix!
There are two dining section: indoor with air-conditioning and outdoor open air with shelter.
To much of my surprise, the indoor dinning area is compact.
It can fit about 5 to 6 tables, but definitely not suitable to cater big group.
Whereas the outdoor dining area has 3 big tables which can fit at least 8 people for table.
The menu is already placed on the table beforehand.
Waiter came to take order for drinks.
We ordered Sencha, the classic Japanese tea.
Best to taste when its hot.
Without further adieu, check out what we've ordered.
- Chawan Mushi RM9.50 -
Japanese-style steam egg pudding - simple dish, but requires a good control of cooking time.
Cooked to perfection.
You just want more!
- Philadelphia Maki RM10.20 -
A Philadelphia roll is a makizushi type of sushi,
made with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber.
I don't remember having this type of sushi before,
and I must put it out there,
the combination is absolutely mind-blowing!
You have the omega taste, refreshing crunchy cucumber and dairy taste chewy cream cheese..
It's so addictive!
- Grilled Salmon Head (Shioyaki style) RM14.30 -
My dad's all-time favourite.
We just had to order this everytime when we visit a Japanese restaurant.
Unfortunately, they are out of big size fish head.
The only stock they have that night was the smallest size.
(They have 3 size servings: large, medium and small.)
To be honest, it was the best grilled salmon head we had,
but it was okay.
- Unagi Kabayaki, RM28 -
Apparently I am the one person who love unagi (freshwater eel) in the family.
We don't usually order this dish, but consider it as a special treat on this trip.
"Kabayaki" is a specific sweet soy sauce, which is commonly found in Japanese cuisine.
Unagi Kabayaki is a dish which freshwater eel is boned and filleted, grilled with a kabayaki sauce.
Good proportion of eel meat and fat, cooked to perfection.
Absolutely a mouth-watering dish!
Can I have more please? :9
- Salmon Sashimi RM53.20 -
You mustn't miss salmon sashimi whenever you're at a Japanese restaurant.
Especially Excapade.
(unless you are not a sashimi-person)
Do I need to explain more on this dish?
Just look at the bright orange meat and fat!
OMGGG
I can taste the freshness of the raw salmon meat.
Best eat when it's chill.
Definitely recommend!
- Shogun Menshi RM15.85 -
My mum, in particular, is not a Japanese-cuisine lover.
So she ordered their Salmon Fried Rice.
I'm pretty impressed by their plating, decorated with sliced omelette in pattern.
Looks very appetising.
Fried rice served fresh from the wok and it has this rice aroma to it.
A hearty delicious dish it is.
Only thing that bothers me is the serving.
No joke, I think I can eat two of that! LOL XD
***
Meal wise, they definitely made it, striving to perfection.
Price wise, it's above average, but consider acceptable for its quality food.
Dining experience wasn't the best.
Still I wish we could sit indoor, especially during night time,
because I'm very "attractive" to mosquitoes. 😂
For a restaurant-class Japanese cuisine provider,
I'm expecting to experience higher service enthusiasm,
but I'm feeling it's a bit lacking that night.
(am I being too sensitive? 😝)
That's all for now.
