Homemade Kueh Teow with Deep Fried Pork @ 3rd floor, Center Market
- Address : 3rd Floor, Jalan Pryer, Pusat Bandar Sandakan, 90000 Sandakan, Sabah.
- Operating Hours : 5AM - 11AM
Located at the third floor of Sandakan Center Market, this homemade kueh teow with deep fried pork is one of the recommended local Chinese food in town. Started in 1940, this breakfast stall is one of the go-to place for its authentic taste.
Interesting fact. This center market has an elevator! So people can hover up and down the building easily. Well of course, you can always opt to take the stairs. ;)
Basically they are only serving one dish, and it's either you want it with soup together, or separate. If you want it dry, just say "konlou".
The deep fried pork has a sweet taste to it, further immerse into the soup base. So everything was sweet to me. At least, that's my first impression. Oh yeah, not forgot to mention, their hot Teh C / Kopi C is only RM1.20 per cup! (omgeee love it!!!)
What I enjoyed the most is the heritage. Furthermore, you can have a bird-eye view from here.

Okay, what about this Agnes Keith?
I bet you heard about the saying "The Land Below The Wind"? Yes, it's referring to Sabah, our state.
And do you know where the title came from?
It is originated from the famous and beautifully written, three-part autobiography by Agnes Newton Keith. Back in the 40s when there is no World Wide Web and Facebook, people get to know things from reading newspapers or books. And that's how our country gets the world's attention after Agnes Keith's autobiography being published in the other side of the world.
This house we are seeing now is a replica. The original house was destroyed during the World War II, but Sabah Museum Department decided to restore and rebuild for heritage purpose. It was opened as a museum in 2004.
The house has two-storey and it's running on air-conditioner. It has been furnished with replica furniture as well as antiques during author Agnes Keith’s time.
Do you know that Agnes Keith House is part of the Sandakan Heritage Trail?

It was an interesting trip down the road - to understand more about the author whom continually made Sabah well-known until today.
Moreover, it was also interesting to know that her in-law, husband and son are all name "Harry Keith"! Interesting face indeed!
