What is "youth unemployment"?
It includes unemployed individuals aging from 15 to 24. Typically an age range which covers individuals whom have just finished high school or graduated from colleges and looking for jobs.
Having said that our local university - Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) just had their convocation, Sabah Job & Entrepreneur Fair 2018 was held just in time.
**This is a post-event blog post which I'm penning down my experience and findings from Day-1 of the 2-day event (24 & 25 November 2018).**
Read on to find out more! ;)
This event reminds me a lot of my uni days,
when we co-organized Sector Focused Career Fair in our Nilai University campus, back in year 2014.
Once I heard that we are getting Job & Entrepreneur Fair in KK,
some more it is happening nearby my neighborhood,
I immediately planned my schedule.
Personally, I think Likas Sports Complex is a great location to held big events as such.
Not only it can accommodate many visitors at once,
there is no worry of car parking issue as there are plenty of them! :)
Apparently the chili hot weather didn't stop people from staying at home.
I arrived at around 2.45PM and was thrilled to see so many people responded to this event.

After passing through a corridor of food stalls,
first thing first you will notice the Form Filling Counter (as below),

where laptops were being provided for e-registration.
How to go about "e-registration"?
All you need is to follow a few simple steps by registering via the official job portal website - www.sabahjobfair.com.my.
Candidates are encouraged to fill in their details online via the aforementioned website, whereby employers could download potential candidates' resume by scanning their unique generated QR code.
The whole process is less-hassle and (at the same time) it protects the environment by saving papers!
There are a total of 70 exhibitors which physically participated in this Job & Entrepreneurship Fair;
this includes 2 Platinum sponsors (Yayasan Sabah and Lion Group), 1 Gold sponsor (KPJ Healthcare Berhad) and 2 Silver sponsors (Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd and Petronas).
According to their media press release,
there are currently more than 150 employers registered on their official job portal.
So do check it out at anytime!

Having said that this event is organised by Parti Warisan Sabah, in collaboration with our State Government and Kumpulan Yayasan Sabah, they invited YB Datuk Mohd Azis bin Haji Jamman (Deputy Minister of Home Affairs) and YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Shafie bin Haji Apdal (Chief Minister of Sabah) as the Guests of Honour for Opening and Closing Ceremony respectively.

so I didn't get the chance to meet all the special guests. :'((((IKR)
Let's give it a tour around the venue! Follow me :D
The whole event layout was structured nicely. Even interview rooms were readily set-up.
Employers are able to interview potential candidates on-the-spot whenever they see fit.

All you need to do is to answer a simple question posted by the event emcee.
Probably the most anticipated activity (for me personally) would be the forum among four successful millenials entrepreneurs, namely
Jason Jonathan Omar (a.k.a. Emcee Jason, co-founder and CEO of Talent Shop Co.),
Jeremy Tan (co-founder of Supermassive Creative & Talent Shop Co.),
Ekram Mahat (founder of Thinkervault & co-founder of borneoolineshop.com),
Zain Zulkarnain (founder of Keyzen & CCO of Talent Shop Co.).
It was truly an insightful forum where all the speakers opened up behind-the-scene stories -
how it all started with an idea (on their heads) to making it happen.
They also shared on the hardships and struggles they faced as millenials entrepreneurs -
failures, prejudice, doubt, insecurity, etc.
What more inspiring was that they overcame that fear, took the first step,
and pursue their dreams persistently.
Now that they have walked the journey, they are more than happy to share with others,
in hoping that their entrepreneurship stories could serve as a blueprints for future start-ups.
Below are some shots taken during the Q&A session.

For those who missed this event, no worries,
cause I heard they are planning to bring it back NEXT YEAR!
So DO stay tuned!
