[Review] Bioré - UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA++++

Hello everyone! :)

Recently I fell in love with this sunscreen. It is soooo good that I wish to share with you right away.

If you're a chemical sunscreen lover and you haven't try this one yet, I'm sure you don't wanna miss out. :D

If you have been following me, you would be able to tell that I rarely share on Japanese skincare products. That's because I barely know a few J-brands.

But one thing in common: the Japanese skincare and makeup products which I tried, tested and reviewed are to my 100% satisfaction! (my head is thinking of Kate and Bioré right now)

Their quality is definitely not questionable. You pay for what you get, or even better than that.

(p/s: if you do have a list of Japanese skincare and/or makeup products to die for, please leave a comment below. I would love to try them out!)

Yes, I do aware that this is not a new product in the market. In fact, Bioré's UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA++++ has been awarded gold medal for the Best Cosmetics Awards by Cosme - the renowned Japanese cosmetic award in 2014, and again in 2018.

The Bioré sunscreen which I'm showing here is the 2017 version, which is slightly different from the initial packaging.

Although I name myself Sakura, nope, I don't read Japanese (at least not now, not when I'm writing this). I can only barely understand from the several Chinese characters which says "sweat and water proof" (if not mistakenly).
The product description behind the packaging is all in Japanese, so I had to search for help online.

If you are curious of what's their ingredient, you can check out the analysis from cosDNA. Very convenient. :)

Let's skip right into application and I'll swatch for you to see. :)

Although it might appears in milky-white in the picture, in real it actually looks more in pale lemon-ish yellow (believe it or not, camera lens are seeing weird colours lol).

The viscosity of this sunscreen is more like a moisturizing lotion, definitely living up to its "Aqua Rich" claim.

What I love about chemical sunscreen is that it doesn't leave white cast. Yassss, you can expect that from Bioré's UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence as well. Because of this very reason, it works perfectly well under makeup, and even perfect for sunscreen re-application.

After application, it might appear squishy at the first minute. Let it sit and be absorbed into the skin. Soon it will leave no trace by appearance, but you can feel the moisture inside and also you can be assured of the sun protection later.

I do mentioned about sunscreen re-application earlier, right?

You do know that most of us are applying sunscreen way much less than the recommended amount? Which is approximately two milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin. Which means applying a shot glass / two tablespoons / 1oz of sunscreen to the exposed areas of the face and body.

The #1 reason why I recommend Bioré's UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence is because of its viscosity. Its light and moisturizing texture makes it ideal for layering sunscreen (at least double layer) - WITHOUT suffocating the skin and pores... and ultimately giving you a better sun protection (clap clap clap!).

#2 reason is because it has PA++++ (four plus signs) to defend from UVA (leads to pre-mature skin aging). Japanese skincare brands are best known for technology innovation and it proves they are really leading the league. By saying that, we notice that Korean skincare brands are launching sunscreens with PA++++ only recently this year.

    1. i've always been on a switch between k-brands and j-brands for sunscreens. so far~ japanese brands has its stand on one of my back-up go tos because they are more affordable. Anessa is apparently the best sunblock around but it costs a bomb.
