2017년4월2일 (일요일) Lunch @ Sabah Keratang, Sadong Jaya
It is the first time after 5 years (around that time period) that my parents and I attended a Chinese Sunday service. It is a language which we grown up with and familiar with, yet it feels so awkward to sing praise and worship songs in Chinese. Anyway.
After Sunday service, as usual, we would have lunch outside instead.
Today we are visiting a local seafood restaurant which is well-known for its specialty - the freshest Giant Grouper in town! Besides that, they also have a other varieties of fish, such as tuna, seabass, squid and prawn available on the menu.

Sabah Kertang is a franchised restaurant originated from Sabah. This outlet at Sadong Jaya is their very first restaurant in Kota Kinabalu which was opened in year 2014. Now they have 3 branches in Kota Kinabalu (which is located at Api-Api Centre, Sadong Jaya and Plaza 333), 1 outlet located in Miri, Sarawak and the newest branch is at Sandakan. (source: Facebook)
It is around 12 noon when we arrived the restaurant. They have about 3 tables of customers. As soon as we placed our orders, we noticed there are about 6 tables of customers (including us). It has quite a good business considering the fact that it is Sunday lunch hour.
In total, we ordered 2 bowls of mee hoon and shared among 3 of us.
Mee Hoon Sup Ikan Sabah Keratang Peria | Giant Grouper Mee Hoon Soup served in Bittergourd base | RM13 |
You can easily tell that it isn't my food choice (heh). For a change, dad says he wanted to try with bittergourd (as above) since he always had with salted-vege.
Mee Hoon Sup Ikan Sabah Keratang Sayur Masin | Giant Grouper Mee Hoon Soup served in Salted-Vege base | RM13 |
And mine here is the one served in salted-vege and soft toufu. You can choose to have the grouper deep fried, or not. I ordered half-half since it is the same price anyway.
Don't fool by its appearance. The soup broth is full of flavour and the sweetness of seafood. The toufu is cooked super soft and tender. How about the fish itself? Lemme show you the photo!
Look, the skin is thick and full of collagen! Other than that, I'm quite disappointed as the fish parts they gave me in my portion are mostly thick bones @@ And I even got some fish scales on the skin... Hmm :/
Also, I think it is rather a small portion for the price, and overpriced too. All we get is just 4 pieces of fish parts, and other than that, mee hoon, salted-vege/bittergourd and toufu are all rather cheap ingredients.
TBH this is not my go-to food choice, but I do enjoy its flavour. Besides that, the fish is indeed very fresh. You will know when you taste it.
Will I revisit this restaurant in near future? By myself, most probably nope.
Will I recommend this restaurant? Yes, if you are a fan of seafood, definitely do try it out!
Cheers! ^_^
