Penang 6D5N Year-End Trip 槟城年尾之旅
December 20, 2016 (Tuesday)
Dad suggested for a car ride instead due to rainy day. So, we drove towards Batu Ferringhi with the sea on our right-hand side. The journey was rather soothing and relaxing since we had a glimpse of mother-nature while passing through the hills.

It took us about 35 minutes to reach Batu Ferringhi. We didn't intentionally plan to visit this resort, but since we were still early for dinner, we thought to have a walk around the resort instead.
As you know, Shangri-La is a franchise resort whereby they too have two of their franchises located at Kota Kinabalu: Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort and Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort. Their resorts are up-to-standard and widely enjoyed by tourists all around the world. Do check out these resorts when you are at Kota Kinabalu.
We can see the similarities of these resorts after seeing Rasa Sayang's landscape design. Green garden is inevitable. While background music (the waves patting on the beach) is playing, it feels so relaxing and healing, and I thought I could just sit there for the whole evening.
They have a beautiful lovely Christmas tree placed at the center of the lobby. I just love the whole environment atmosphere. We spent about half an hour there before leaving for dinner.

The Ship Batu Ferringhi
I still can remember clearly when my dad brought me to The Ship Kuala Lumpur for dinner during my foundation studies year. He wanted to treat me for a good dinner - a daughter who is living away from home. That was my first dining experience at The Ship.Actually we saw The Ship by the road while heading the Rasa Sayang Resort. Turning our way back in opposite direction, it took us less than 5 minutes to see the marvelous architecture - the ship itself. It is a 2-storey building, however its second-floor has been closed for nearly 20 years, according to its staffs.

They were having Christmas Full-Course Promotion at that time, featuring beef, lamb and salmon as main course. Each set costs RM72.90++ (10% service charge and 6% GST), serving with appetizer, soup and dessert. Come, let's eat like a king!
As soon as we placed our orders, the waiter served us hot buns with butter. I really like their buns because they are so fresh and smells good.
For soup, we ordered Russian Borsch (or, mixed vegetable soup) and English Choice of Cream (or, mushroom cream soup). Both taste so-so.
Left- Russian Borsch; Right-English Choise of Cream |
As for appetizer, we changed from Escargots Bourguinonne to Mango & Prawns Cocktail and Seafood Cocktail, because we aren't used to eat escargots (or, french snails). It's not good to waste food, might as well we order something we are comfortable to eat with.

Salmon is served together with grilled giant prawns, corn comb and french fries. It tastes good, especially I like the prawns. We ate it happily with sour cream sauce. However, platting wise, the salad is not very attractive and appetizing.
Then we have boneless lamb chop on the table, served with corn comb, broccoli and fried potato wedges. At the very first, we thought it was beef steak. However, the tenderness of the lamb chop which melts in our bites quickly proved itself. I like their choice of having boneless meat; otherwise it could be very messy while eating.
Last but not least, their signature beef steak, served with corn comb, broccoli and baked potato. The truth is, I am not a big fan of steak, so I couldn't comment much on this main course. Maybe you should come and try it your own.
At last, the menu ends with cheese cake as dessert. I was having high hope on this, unfortunately, it was a miss where half of it is sponge cake underneath the cheese layer. (nawwww)
This whole meal costed RM255 in total where we ordered 3 sets and shared among ourselves. Overall, it was a pleasant meal and exciting experience to dine inside a real ship!
Side note: The toilet is located at second floor, where you will need to take a steep flight of stairs.
Hope you enjoy your meal there as we did :)
---stay tuned---
